Weathered barnboard (Backboard) when used with the weathered side down provides an extraordinary flooring material. Supplied in random lenghts and widths. Although typically grey in colour, barn board is also available in limited quantities of faded red or green. A century ago, pine and hemlock were the predominant species used for exterior cladding. The boards will have knots, nail-holes, stains, cracks and worm tracks as only mother nature can design. Occasionally the boards are weathered on both sides, depending on the frugality of the barn's caretaker who may have turned them over after the first 75 years or so.
