The stones we used hailed from the foundation of an 1870’s school we dismantled in Port Hope, Ontario. This ledge rock from the Ganaraska River made a beautiful wall (see #11) and flagstones from a local garden supply were used to transition from the finished surfaces surrounding the house to the softer garden areas (see #12).

Try to install water and electricity (lighting) lines concurrently with the drainage trenching but certainly before finishing any beds, walkways or sod-work. Reviewing at this point the placement of accessories like benches, a sink or fountain is prudent (see #13 and #14). Install a drainage spigot at the low point of the water lines in order to drain the system in the fall.
