A Growing Obsession

Showtime
After the placement of casual flagstone paths and the odd urn or piece of old picket fence my construction efforts became limited to building jungle gym type structures for the beans, tomatoes and zucchini. By now the seedlings are getting big and bold. Christine’s nurturing has paid off and the environmental compatibility of the plantings will be her next test. Nothing prepared me for what was to come!

Second year perennials

Our second year perennials appeared to be off to a good start (see #15) but in no time at all the plume poppies had grown to a height of ten feet (see#16). Amazingly, from those little trays on the windowsill sprang monstrous vegetables that we continually harvested (see #17). Each morning they appeared to be larger than the morning before. A garden doesn’t rest!

As the floras and vines stretched upward in harmony with the vegetable’s greenery, each planned area offered up its own interpretation of summer (see#18). The whole garden was vibrant, yet intimate.

A surprising reward came in the form of a northerly neighbour’s visit. She thanked us for creating a pleasant overlook from her condominium…something her developer had promised her (see #19).
